With the recent release of Resident Evil 3, long time fans of the franchise are given a chance to taste the neo-gothic horror that made the series so legendary.
Recent years have given us the ENTIRE main entries in the Resident Evil franchise on modern consoles. Capcom has been hard at work molding the franchise back to its roots, and it’s greatly paid off. Remastering and Remaking older entries in the series bring Resident Evil to a new audience that didn’t grow up playing them. Not only is it fantastic fan service, it’s the best marketing strategy Capcom can do to bring the franchise to a modern audience.
It’s a wonderful revival of an entry in the franchise that terrified me as a child. Being able to grind my way through the early hours of the Racoon City incident is an absolute treat. Seeing these locations with modern visuals gives you a clearer understanding of the chaos that is consuming the city.
Jill Valentine

Jill Valentine makes her epic RE-debut to the series with a new look that properly shows how much of a bad ass she is. Gone are the days of over sexualized short skirts, and the horrendous camera angles.
Jill’s redesign is perfect for her independent personality. There is a stronger emphasis on her being able to handle herself against the horrors that Umbrella can produce, and she dispatches them with grace and badassery. Her character development clearly shows her growth from going through the terrifying encounters at the Spencer Mansion during the events of the first game. She is honestly a female lead that I would want my daughter to look up to.
Nemesis

Oh boy. This guy plagued my nightmares for years. Every corner I took I would expect to hear “STARS” come from behind me. Then I would proceed to piss myself.
Nemesis in Resident Evil 3 remake is an absolute beast of a B.O.W (Bio Organic Weapon). Even back in the day his persistent stalking would have you dreading every time you would leave the safe room. Now, Nemesis brings a whole new batch of terror with him. While being pursued by this hulking beast, he will now leap in front of you to cut you off. Like, come on. You guys have no idea how many times I jumped in my old gaming chair. I’m honestly going to break it one of these days…
Gameplay

The smooth gameplay follows on the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake. The same over the shoulder camera point of view makes a return, and rightfully so. It’s honestly the perfect point of view for Resident Evil game. It keeps you engaged in combat while giving you a better understanding of your surroundings when things get a little chaotic. That’s something that a first person perspective can’t give you. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Resident Evil 7, but I found myself making stupid tactical mistakes while being hunted, or fighting the creatures in the basement.
Resident Evil 3‘s returns back to its traditional roots with a dark, neo-gothic atmosphere that long time fans have come to love. Each window casts the dim blue light of the full moon through, slightly illuminating the dark corridors with in Raccoon City. It’s an absolute gorgeous sight that will drown you in a sense of dread as you turn every corner.
Resident Evil 3 remake is a fantastic homage to long time fans of the franchise. Capcom’s current generation of the RE engine blows everything that came before it out of the water. With such a commercial success the these remakes are turning out to be, we can only hope that one day Capcom will give us those Code Veronica and Outbreak remakes that fans so desperately want.
