Let’s Talk: Crash Bandicoot

Hello my faithful fans! I hope everybody is doing well! Since I missed my article last week, due to computer mishaps, my viewers were treated to a surprise article from my buddy Jericoh101. Now today we are gonna talk about a game that’s near and dear to my heart.

It was one of the first games I learned how to play on the PlayStation 1 of you can believe it! The game we are talking about today is none other than Crash Bandicoot. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, we are hopping all the way back to 1996 on this weeks “Let’s Talk.” Now back in the early 2,000’s you were a fan or one game or the other. Those titles being either Crash Bandicoot or Spyro. I wasn’t a fan of the little purple dragon, no I was part of an elite group. The group of kids that for some reason loved the impossibly hard Crash games. Many an hour was spent huddled around the tiny tv we had as children; passing the controller whenever we died. Which was inevitable, the games were nothing more than superb death traps.

We didn’t let the overwhelming losses ruin our fun though. I was reminded about those sweet childhood memories when I caught a commercial for the new Crash Bandicoot It’s About Time the other day. I know I’m excited for it! I hope I’m not the only one. For those who don’t know the glorious name of Crash, let me break it down for you. Crash Bandicoot is a franchise of platform video games. Originally developed by Naughty Dog as an exclusive for Sony’s PlayStation console, the series has seen numerous installments created by numerous developers and published on multiple platforms. Crash Bandicoot is the title character and main protagonist of the Crash Bandicoot series. Introduced in the 1996 video game Crash Bandicoot, Crash is a mutant eastern barred bandicoot who was genetically enhanced by the series’ main antagonist Dr. Neo Cortexand soon escaped from Cortex’s castle after a failed experiment in the “Cortex Vortex”.

Crash was intended to be a mascot character for Sony to use to compete against Nintendo’s Mario and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Crash was given his name (which stems from the visceral reaction to the character’s destruction of boxes), he was referred to as “Willie the Wombat” for much of the duration of the first game’s production. I hope this explained a little about the legendary Crash Bandicoot. Everybody stay safe this weekend and Happy Independence Day!
