Hey everybody! It’s the end of the week again so we know what that means! It’s time for another Let’s Talk, where I bring to light some of the games the 101 Militia Crew is getting into these days! Taking a break from competitive gaming for a while, Jericoh and I were hunting for a nice Co-Op to take a breather with. Ladies and Gentlemen, we found one that’s not only an amazing Co-Op, it’s one of the best solo games I’ve played in awhile. A game that graphically, I think is one of the most beautifully styled games and the one we are talking about this afternoon. So welcome everybody and Let’s Talk: Strange Brigade!

Strange Brigade is a Co-Op Third Person Shooter developed and published by Rebellion Developments. It released on August 28, 2018 for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and August 1, 2020 for Stadia. Strange Brigade has a huge emphasis on Co-Op gameplay. In the game, the player assumes the role of an adventurer in the 1930s and can team up with friends to fight against different mythological enemies such as mummies, giant scorpions, and much more! So buckle up and take a ride through Egypt, just watch out for the giant scorpions!

How will you handle all the nefarious going ons? By pulling a buddy into the game with you! Now, in my opinion, the best part of Co-Op gaming; organizing your squad! If your playing with friends have no fear, there are four playable characters, who can be customized, have different weapons and abilities. Players have a large arsenal of weapons at their disposal. Each weapon has several upgrade slots, which can be used to enhance combat efficiency. Players can switch and upgrade their weapons at the workbenches found in a level. They can also activate different traps, such as spinning blades and spikes, to kill enemies. Each character has standard weapon set, but if you’re lucky enough to stumble upon a work bench, you have instant access to all the characters weapons! It’s a smorgasbord of vintage 1930’s style weapons! Mix and match shotguns and smgs to complement each other’s play styles, or go at it alone with the Chamberlain Automatic Rifle! Now, let’s talk about the members of Strange Brigade itself.

There’s Nalangu Rushida, an African tribeswoman; Frank Fairburne, sharpshooter and relative to the protagonist of the Sniper Elite series; the mild-mannered Archimedes De Quincy; and a Manchester-raised boxer and factory worker Gracie Braithwaite. Each member has the capacity to use any weapon, so it all comes down to your play style! So when it comes to the Brigade, take your pick, grab a weapon load-out and crawl across Egypt in an effort to thwart the antagonist (which I won’t give spoilers about.)
Now let me tell you another thing that drew me to the Brigade. Which are the puzzles that drug me back to my Legend of Zelda dungeon crawling days. Strange Brigade’s labyrinthine crypts and forgotten, overgrown cities are explorable solo, or in four-player co-op. It’s when you rope in friends that Strange Brigade really shines. The levels change depending on how many players you have in your party, with more enemies to fight and twists on existing puzzles to solve. For the people that want to rock it alone and spend time delving deep into crypts, you don’t have to worry about clunky AI getting in the way, which I find a relief. So playing alone is just that; all alone. There are no AI teammates to help or hinder you, and this gives you time to take in the expansive vistas and intricate theming of the levels. So wrangle up some friends, and get lost in the mysteries of Egypt by picking up a copy today. For my folks on the Play Station it’s actually a steal right now for only $5.34 plus tax!
Now that we are wrapping up Let’s Talk, it’s now time for Let’s Ask! So tell me everybody, have you tried Strange Brigade? If you have, drop a comment and tell me how you liked it!
