I’m a huge Ghost Recon fan, I truly am. I played every single one growing up to the point of obsession. Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2, Future Soldier, and Wildlands were all such amazing games. Me and Lauren have been putting off playing Breakpoint, but we will definitely hop in soon! When I saw that Ubisoft was going to announce some big Ghost Recon news, I just knew we were getting remasters. Something that has been asked for by so many loyal fans of the franchise, however, we were given something that literally churns my stomach.
A battle royale…
Yeah, the trend is still going. For some reason, AAA shooter developers are STILL in the mindset that every major shooter franchise needs a battle royale. How many have to fail before this horrible trend dies out? Battlefield 5 tried and failed, Black Ops 4 made me want to vomit, Fallout 76 tried, Battlefield 2042 is getting one, and now Ghost Recon? Like come on. Nobody really likes these games. There are two exceptions with battle royales: PUBG, Warzone, and Fortnite. These games have too big of a following to fail now, and no amount of competition is going to change that.

I just don’t understand the reasoning behind them. It’s not like it’s hidden knowledge. Most battle royales fail. That’s just facts. Just because you slap a new name on it won’t back it any better! Ghost Recon is a tactical shooter, not a kill every last enemy before the circle closes crap. Just stop, please. It’s time to move on. Ubisoft’s first attempt at a battle royale, Hyperscape, failed miserably. This isn’t what your community desires from you as a company, so why even attempt such a damaging thing?
Hopefully, Ubisoft will cancel it all together. It was a waste of resources and time. Nobody wants recycled content. Ghost Recon has such an amazing fan base, why push those fans away for the 12 year olds who don’t have the patience for a tactical shooter? It literally blows my mind. Even the release trailer has 3x the amount of dislikes compared to likes. That honestly should tell you everything.
Okay, my rant is over.
Ubisoft needs to take note of what their fan base is looking for. Forcing games out to fit trends just isn’t going to cut it for them. Ubisoft is already on thin ice for being declared one of the most toxic video game companies to work for. You’re driving your employees away, don’t drive your fan base away too.
