It’s no secret that I’m a huge Battlefield supporter. I’ve always preferred the huge, open ended gameplay rather than traditional team based FPS games like Call of Duty, Halo, and similar titles. However, this year’s Battlefield game is rough around the edges to say the least. I’m not saying 2042 is a bad game by any means, I’m just saying the game was clearly not ready for launch which has become a common theme in today’s video game market. Overall, 2042 is an amazing game. Yes it has a few problems with the core gameplay, but there’s something that saves this game from a commercial failure, and I’m not talking about the Hunt Showdown rip off mode. I’m talking about Portal Mode.
Portal is literally every Battlefield player’s dream. You can create ANY experience you want! You can use assets from other games in the franchise, tweak it to your liking, and have the time of your life. Better yet, you can play full matches with bots. YES. Just like Battlefield was originally meant to be played! It’s really a blast from the past for anyone who grew up playing the classics.
So, as of right now we have access to assets from four games. 1942, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 2042. These game be mixed, banned, adjusted, added to, or what ever you desire. Guns, maps, vehicles, everything available for you to create the perfect playground of destruction. As far as I know, Dice will be adding more assets to Portal for us to play with. No game was actually specified, but it’s coming.
At the top of my list is Battlefield Vietnam. I have some awesome memories in that game that I would love to recreate! I would also like to see Battlefield 1 make a reappearance in Portal. It was by far the best Battlefield game I’ve ever played on a console, and I know the fan base would love to have it back! The assets are still modern so it shouldn’t be too had to add it!
The future is looking really bright for Battlefield fans. With Portal taking the gaming would by storm, it’s going to be amazing to see what is added later in!
